Discovery Workshops at the first TEDinArabic Summit

The Years of Culture workshops will be conducted in Arabic and will be open to the public with prior registration.

In partnership with Qatar Foundation and TED, Years of Culture have organised two Discovery Workshops as part of the first-ever TEDinArabic Summit, which will take place from 18-19th March at Qatar National Convention Centre.

A Boost for the Arabic Language

The workshops will be led by a renowned local illustrator, Jowhara, and will focus on watercolour journaling inspired by the recently published "Travel Book of Culture" by French artist Lapin. Combining the spirit of exploration and adventure profiled in the “Travel Book of Culture” with a community-focused workshop is just the type of rich experience that can be borne out of dialogue between different cultures.

TEDinArabic is an initiative by TED and Qatar Foundation, providing a global platform for thinkers, researchers, artists, and change-makers across the Arab world to share ideas in the Arabic language. Its first summit will be held in Doha and will focus on the theme of "The Butterfly Effect", emphasising the interconnectedness of the world and the impact of small occurrences on the larger system we operate within.

Jowhara is a self-taught professional Artist based in Qatar. She specialises in watercolour and gouache art. With more than 15 years of experience, Jay has developed an intricate knowledge of art journaling, with images that showcase delightful emotions and capture special moments. 

Aside from being an artist, Jowhara is also a certified Art instructor, holding 6 training certificates, including an international TOT Diploma from Cambridge Training Collage in Britain. She hosts public and private art workshops in many creative subjects that can be practised as a form of art therapy.

Jowhara has created artworks for several Arabic and English novels, magazines, and home decor. Her mission is to find the beauty in normal everyday life.
